On May 21, 1927, Charles Lindbergh successfully flew from New York to Le Bourget, an airport in the Paris region, alone and non-stop, aboard the now legendary Spirit of St. Louis!
The feat lasted 32 hours and was not without danger: 15 days earlier, two French aviators, Charles Nungesser and François Coli, lost their lives attempting the same crossing.
Lindbergh's success had an incredible impact and fascinated the population with aviation. It became possible to connect the two continents by air; it had never been so easy and quick to connect Paris and New York. What good news for these two countries!
The history of aviation and that of Lindbergh's crossing are particularly relevant examples, without being the only ones, of the incredible links between France and the United States, where even rivalry serves the common good and innovation!
