In Metropolis, a futuristic city, humans coexist with robots. The gigantic skyscraper Ziggurat houses society's elites, while the poor and robots are condemned to a life underground.
Detective Shunsaku Ban and his nephew Kenichi investigate human organ trafficking and meet Doctor Laughton, a rebellious scientist. The latter designed Tima, a wonderful little girl who is also a new kind of android. This is destined to sit at the top of Ziggurat.
