Fleeing the poverty into which she has sunk since becoming a widow, Rosaria abandons Calabria to settle in Milan. With her young sons, she joins the eldest, Vincenzo, who preceded them. After many disappointments, Rosaria manages to rent a basement where she can install her family. Rocco and Simone, two of his sons, quickly found work and developed a passion for boxing. Special jury prize at the Venice Film Festival in 1960, “Rocco and his brothers” is a special object in Visconti's work. It seals the meeting of the director with the duo Alain Delon-Claudia Cardinale. A duo that he brought together again for “Le Guépard”, in 1963.
