Bridges of Arts in Paris

The Pont des Arts, also called the Gateway of the Arts, is a structure located between the Institut de France and the Louvre Museum. Built between 1801 and 1804, it is the first iron bridge in the capital. The footbridge is reserved for pedestrians. With family, couples or friends, the walk is pleasant and the views over the Seine and its monuments are ideal for photo sessions.

PADLOCKS: the Paris town hall had to remove the thousands of padlocks placed by couples to seal their love because they endangered the bridge. A Franco-Mexican artist created a work based on these grids. It is on display at Place du Palais-Royal. The work has the shape of a “prison house” . Is this the image that Carmen Mariscal wanted to give of love? Everyone will see what they want. But the Franco-Mexican artist wanted to "question these loving practices which consist of symbolizing the union of a couple with a padlock, then throwing the key into the Seine" , specifies a press release. She used as main materials the grids filled with padlocks which threatened the Pont des Arts and that of the Archevêché (which connects the Seine to the Île de la Cité) and removed by the Paris town hall in 2015.
