Vimy, the remains of the battle of the Great War
- Description
- Print media
The current landscape still retains some rare traces of the fighting. At the foot of Vimy Ridge, mine craters and shell holes bear witness to the battles that took place there. Indeed, during the conflict, the bombings were intense. The Canadian General Staff estimated the number of shells fired during the eight days following the artillery preparation for the Battle of Vimy Ridge at 500,000.
This site presents original funerary architecture. It is one of four mine craters used as a cemetery by the Commonwealth on the Western Front. Located near the Vimy Memorial Site, it is closely linked to the capture of Vimy Ridge.
